Jesus Freaks

So I have some pretty awesome friends. One of my incredibly awesome friends is a coworker of mine who is totally amazing - in my humble opinion. She is so totally amazing, and always has been. She is the perfect geeky friend, and one of the people that helps me get through my insane addictions to random geeky things without completely annoying my husband...

So Erica is awesome, and she recently found a really awesome guy too. I haven't met him but he apparently matches her levels of awesomeness in so many ways its epic. Okay, maybe I should explain WHY I think my friend is so awesome. See, she is my Harry Potter loving, Buffy the Vampire Slayer supporting, Angel afficionado, anything Whedon, soulless vampire hating, friend who just happens to hate boys who sparkle as much as I do (although when the BOOKS very first came out and weren't the entire craze they have become we both very much enjoyed reading the books and loved reading them despite Stephenie Meyer's complete inability to STOP using a word such as incredulous - but this is an entirely different rant that I will probably go into at a later time).

Recently, in addition to all the wonderful geeky things that make her awesome, she was given a gift by this wonderful guys shes dating, although in some ways I'm not sure I like him because he's making her want to leave Florida to be in Georgia all the time :-(. The gift was a Bible. His faith is really important to him, and he wanted to share it with her, which I think is really cool.

So, jump a little bit it time to a later point where she has now started to read not only her Bible but also a plethora of other great and fabulous books - the Jesus Freaks series!!! Well, as we were talking about these books, I was telling her I had read one of the Jesus Freaks books (I think it might still be in a bunch of my stuff back at my mom's) but that I also own a copy of another one of the books thats very similar entitled Under God. Well, my suggestion didn't so much since she had already read that one, but it got me thinking...

She read these great books, and it really got me to thinking. I used to try reading one story from the books a day. Sort of as a daily devotional, and then sometime in college I stopped doing this practice. Probably because it just got too stressful, but the point of these books, and a major point of God always being there for us, is that we can lean on him during the most stressful parts of our lives. We can lean on God on a daily basis. It comes so easy to forget because everything else gets in the way and clouds our judgment. God should always be at the center, because we can get through anything with the grace of God!!

This is one of those messages that we, as humans who constantly make mistakes and mess up, can learn and relearn many times in our lives. It's one of those messages that no matter how much we feel we have been leaning on God, we can always lean on Him some more. So I really just want to thank Erica, and all her awesomeness, for reminding me of this very simple lesson. As she herself said, the books helped her to prioritize the things in her life, and made her really think about whats the most important stuff. So thank you Erica.

ROFL. I'd do a count on how many times you wrote the word awesome but ultimately decided to give up. XD Sounds like a truly wonderful person.
